The Phone Balance Challenge: Day 6

The final day of this challenge and it went pretty well.

From the picture, you can see that I succeeded with more than 3 hours still left to go. Success!

However, yesterday I mentioned that I would connect a PlayStation 3 via my phone to the PlayStation Network.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to do this despite downloading some awesome software called Connectify. It enables Windows 7 OS computers to turn itself into a wireless router. I was quite impressed with the documentation on the software that was available and quite a few sites seem to have good things to say about it. I was quite pleased to actually find an application that does all the setup for you (previous Windows OSes didn't seem to have any software available).
Anyway, it worked quite well (well, I was able to connect to the Network I created), but I was unable to connect to the PlayStation network. It failed with a selection of error messages; from a DNS error message to a message about the WPA key being incorrect. I was able to get Connectify software to see the PlayStation and its connection attempts and I was able to get the PlayStation to see my router, but still, no success. I took some pictures.
I eventually gave up and watched TV and did some random surfing to use up the dollars that I had left.

  1. Wicked, you can turn your PC into a router! That is good, I was surprised it was not possible to do that when I first got wireless - good discovery!

An unusual shopping experience

A few days ago I was in a shopping centre near to Syndey Aquarium. I walked into a clothes shop there and started to look at the sunglasses they had on sale. A female member of sales staff walked past me, smiled and said the obligatory "hi, how are you. Want to try any sunnies on?". Standard reply of "oh,...no,...no thanks, I'm just looking thanks". Nothing unusual. I looked at the sunglasses a bit longer then slowly started to wander round the shop looking at other things. About 5 minutes had elapsed since I had entered the shop and spoken to the girl. I was now looking through their extensive collection of board shorts. Admiring the price, fabric, etc. This girl walked over and started folding clothes or doing something with clothes and hangers. I didn't pay any attention. Suddenly she exclaimed in an overfriendly way "what are you up to tonight?". I almost jumped with surprise, looked up at her, looked around to see if the question was directed ...

The Dangers of Washing Up

Washing dirty dishes is a pretty tedious task, it causes arguments between couples, family disharmony about whose turn it is (to my younger sister who had an S in her name: if your name has an S in it then you only do washing up with an S in the days), friction among friends sharing a flat and one of them using 5 pans to cook bacon and egg, the point is escaping me....pretty much everyone would like to not do it. Pretty much everyone needs an excuse. This is a good excuse. A big, hairy, fuck-off spider in the corner of your kitchen. You can even see what looks like a black and white little face that looks like Papa Lazarou from The League of Gentlemen.  "Oh my....fuck me dead...what the fffffuuu..." was my reaction. Pretty colourful lanaguage looking back on it, but I was arse-clenchingly surprised. I'm not even that scared of spiders. But for those not used to seeing massive spiders (me included) this is probably one of the biggest, hairest, fuck-off spiders I have ...

A long way to get somewhere

A few days ago I was thinking about this journey that I am doing; Moscow via Lisbon via Maldova and then through China, and I now sort of wish that I had chosen to go to Russia from Portugal by land. It would have been pretty cool to do a journey like that just with the use of train. I could then be one of those people that can say that they have travelled most of the globe just by land. I could possibly get my own TV show and book series. Michael Palin did. He was already famous, so he had a head start, but he's just an example. Phileas Fog is another person, albeit a fictional character. He went "around the world in 80 days". He's even got his own line of crisps now. Yeah. Circumnavigating the world does definitely have benefits. It would be something quite special to tell people about. That I have gone from the farthest westerly point to the farthest easterly point of one land mass just using ground-based public transport. Living on the outskirts of London and...
